Kyushu is one of the islands that make up the Japanese archipelago, and is located in the southwestern part of Japan. It is one of the four major islands along with Hokkaido, Honshu and Shikoku. It is the third largest island among them, and is the 37th largest island in the world. We call Kyushu and its accompanying island "Kyushu region". There are seven prefectures in Kyushu: Fukuoka prefecture, Saga prefecture, Nagasaki prefecture, Kumamoto prefecture, Oita prefecture, Miyazaki prefecture, and Kagoshima prefecture.
